About Becca

Becca was born on September 18th 1982. She was the eldest child of four, with sister Daisy, brother Oliver and little sister Florence. She came from an extremely close family.

She always had a passion for marine life (particularly sharks), travel, anything Spanish, history, ballet and music. She had a fierce loyalty for her family and friends who meant the world to her. Becca absolutely adored her school life and achieved 10 G.C.S.E.'s and 3 A Levels. She then attended The University of Liverpool and obtained a BA hons in Ancient History and Archaeology. Not entirely sure what career path to take, she was accepted at Edinburgh University to take a degree in Speech Therapy. After much deliberation, she decided not to take the place at Edinburgh and fulfil her dream of travelling around the world instead.

She worked two jobs in a supermarket bakery and a local pub to finance her trip. On the 8th January, we held a leaving party for Becca so that friends and family could say goodbye. She was to travel to Mexico to carry out turtle conservation work, a diving course and sightseeing and then on to Florida to visit relations. After that she was to travel to Peru for conservation work in the Rain Forest and to dig on the Inca trail. Then to Australia and New Zealand, Bali and Bora Bora. This was was the trip of a life time and Becca wasn't due home until two weeks before Christmas. She left Heathrow for Mexico on 17th January.

She left individual bags in her bedroom with Birthday presents for her family as she had never missed their Birthdays before. That probably sums up Becca better than anything.

On the 13th February 2005, less than four weeks into her travels, after a bat monitoring expedition, the minibus that Becca was travelling in, plunged down a 250 metre ravine, landing on a ridge 50 metres down.

Becca and one other British girl were thrown from the bus and died instantly. She was 22 years old. Becca was a wonderful girl. She was kind, happy and full of life. Her infectious laugh could always be heard and her family were incredibly proud of her. Life without her will never be the same and we miss her so much.
